Charlie Woollett, who played for United during the war years, passes away aged 90.

Former Newcastle United player Charlie Woollett has died, aged 90.

Born in 1921 in Murton, Charlie played for United during the war years (1942-46) having joined the Magpies from local side Eppleton CW.

One of the mainstays of wartime football at St. James' Park, Charlie played alongside Albert Stubbins and scored 13 goals in 75 appearances.

After leaving United he went on to play for Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Bradford and York.
