Dan Leadbitter has signed for League Two side Torquay United following his release from Newcastle this summer.
Athletic right-back Leadbitter, 20, had graduated from the Little Benton Academy and into the Reserve team, but his progress at St. James' Park was hampered by injuries.
However, the former Gosforth High School pupil has now moved to the opposite end of the country to continue his football career with The Gulls, who were beaten play-off finalists last season.
Leadbitter told Torquay's official website: "It wasn't a tough choice at all because I am willing to travel anywhere to have a good chance of playing league football.
"Leaving my family and friends behind is hard but I'm not the first person ever to do it, and I will just be concentrating on football."
