Jose Enrique and Cesc Fabregas

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew believes he has the Premier League's in-form left-back on his books in Jose Enrique.

The Spaniard has been at the top of his game this season, and was the Magpies' main source of creativity during Saturday's draw at Blackburn.

It is that willingness to bomb forward, as well as a diligence over his defensive duties, which has attracted wide-spread praise, and Pardew reckons that is fully justfied.

"He's a super player and is very important to us," said the manager.

"There aren't too many who can hold a candle to him at the moment in terms of performances.

"If you were the opposition you would have to start worrying about him defensively because he keeps coming at you - and let alone the other aspects of our team offensively, you have to look after our left-back.

"He will raid and raid all day and has been absolutely terrific for us."

Enrique has represented Spain at Under 16, Under 20 and Under 21 level, but so far a senior cap has eluded him.

And Pardew is convinced he deserves a call up to the reigning World and European champions.

"Possibly that would be a fitting tribute for him to get into that squad," he said.

"It's a tough one because they (the Spanish) have an outstanding team, but he's showing the sort of form that could get him in there, no problem."
