Newcastle United are running community sports clubs for young people across Tyneside in Badminton, Judo, Table Tennis and Volleyball.
The Premier League 4 Sports initiative will help the Government's ambition to offer young people five hours of sport a week, as part of its 2012 legacy plans. It will also address the drop-off in sports participation when young people leave secondary school.
Working with the sports governing bodies, the Youth Sport Trust and Sport England, Newcastle United Foundation aims to get more young people, aged between 11 and 16, to join local sport clubs in the four Olympic sports during the three year scheme.
As part of the project, Newcastle United Foundation has linked to four established community sport clubs: Newburn Volleyball Club, Newburn Judo Club, Cramlington Table Tennis Club and Whitley Bay Badminton Club. Children can attend their local satellite club to try out one or more of the sports, benefiting from expert coaching from the community sports club. Clubs are running after school in the following venues:
