A LATE Robert Koren goal saw West Bromwich Albion close the gap on Newcastle United to six points following Tuesday night's 1-0 victory at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

The Slovenian came from the bench to decide a previously dour contest as he thundered home from 30 yards after a fine passing move in the 79th minute.

The Magpies now have a game in hand on both The Baggies and Nottingham Forest in third.

West Brom host Blackpool on Saturday while Forest travel to Preston.
