CHRIS Hughton accepts that Newcastle United will have to complete their promotion campaign under the media spotlight.

In what is something of a backhanded compliment, The Magpies have found nine of their 17 league fixtures switched for live television coverage so far this season.

But boss Hughton always knew that United would find themselves the subject of heightened scrutiny as they bid for a swift return to the top flight.

"We knew that would be the case from day one," replied the manager when asked about the high level of interest in the club.

"We knew we were a big club in this division and we have to get used to the publicity that surrounds this club.

"But we've got a strong group of lads who are able to carry that and so far they have done so tremendously well."

The Geordies revert back to a 3pm kick-off this weekend when Swansea City visit Gallowgate, and Hughton admits he is happy with the traditional start time.

"For me I prefer to play at 3 o'clock on a Saturday," he added.

"Not only because that is what I was used to as a player and enjoy that time, but because you haven't got that added pressure of knowing what other teams have done.

"Saying that, we have always handled that pressure and have got two terrific Monday night wins (Sheff Utd and Preston) recently.

"But we're back to 3 o'clock at St.James' Park and I'm sure the fans are looking forward to it as much as we are."
