NILE Ranger will get some match minutes under his belt when Newcastle United Reserves return to action against Leeds United this week.

The second-string have not played a competitive fixture since their 4-2 defeat at Rotherham four weeks ago, although Alan Thompson's side have enjoyed behind-closed-doors friendly matches with Celtic and Middlesbrough during that time.

But on Wednesday they travel to York City's KitKat Crescent (kick-off 7pm) to take on the unbeaten Lilywhites, with Ranger joined by Kazenga LuaLua, Ryan Donaldson and Ben Tozer in the United squad.

Ranger has appeared in all but one of the senior side's games so far this term but is yet to break his scoring duck for Chris Hughton's men.

His sole goal this season came for the Reserves during last month's 3-2 defeat against Celtic at Benton.

The Londoner, though, has caught the eye since making his debut as a substitute at West Brom on the opening day and already appears to have the Toon Army on side with his honest, all-action endeavours.
