HAVING come from the bench during Saturday's home clash with Doncaster to inject a much-needed shot of adrenalin into Newcastle United's quest for parity, and ultimately a winner, Nile Ranger has put him name in the frame for a recall when the league leaders take on Sheffield United on Monday night.

The whiplash frontman, still just 18 years old, has won many admirers among the Toon Army for his robust and honest endeavours.

And it's not just the Geordie faithful who have come to appreciate the Londoner's raw talent, as Magpie boss Chris Hughton told nufcTV.

"Nile's enthusiasm certainly lifted the team and the crowd on Saturday," said the United chief as he reflected on Ranger's 60th-minute introduction.

"We were, of course, trailing one-nil at the time, but he gave us a lift and it was a turning point in many ways.

"He's a young lad who gives everything and causes problems for opposition defences.

"He wants to start games but we have to be careful and decide how best to get what we want from him.

"But he's certainly done his cause the world of good. He just needs to keep working hard now because there are areas of his game he needs to work on and he knows that."
