Versatile defender able to play full-back or centre-half, James joined United from Walbottle School where he attended from aged 15 after moving from West Yorkshire.
From 9 years old he played six seasons with Leeds United before moving to Tyneside. Thrilled to be awarded a two-year scholarship with Newcastle United, the Habib Beye fan, who also plays cricket, holds the ambition of playing in the Premier League.
Indebted to his mother who James says 'has sacrificed everything for my football career.'
Made his Reserve team debut in the Central League Cup tie against Sheffield United on 22 September 2008 and scored his first goal in the Northumberland Senior Cup tie v Team Northumbria on 2 March 2009. Made his first-team bow as a substitute in the 1 - 0 friendly win at Huddersfield on 21 August 2009.
Made competitive debut in the Carling Cup tie at Peterborough on 22 September 2009.
