Newcastle United chief hails contribution of Harps since he took over Magpies

KEVIN Keegan admits that Newcastle United could have shipped a lot more than three goals during their final day defeat at Everton had it not been for the efforts of Steve Harper.
The Easington-born stopper has been magnificent under KK and conceded just once during a run of seven-and-a-half hours as the Magpies clawed their way clear of the top flight drop zone.
And, having watched Harps deny the Toffees what would've been an end-of-season rout at Goodison Park on Sunday, the United boss paid tribute to his ever-reliable keeper.
"It could have been five or six without Harps," he told Newcastle World TV after the 3-1 defeat.
"He played very well and made some great saves.
"A lot of them were at him, but with the ball moving about he did very well.
"He has been excellent for me.
"He came in at a very difficult time after Shay's injury and he can be proud of how he has played in all the games.
"I can honestly say that you can look at the goals we have conceded and you can't say 'Steve, you could have done better'.
"The ones that have beat him have either been great strikes or he has been unprotected, and that was also the case against Everton."
