DAMIEN Duff made a return to international football after a 10-month absence as Republic of Ireland were beaten 1-0 by Brazil in Dublin.

Duff, winning his 67th cap, played the full 90 minutes alongside Magpie team-mate Shay Given who was making his 85th appearance.

Michael Owen was an unused sub as Fabio Capello got his England reign off to a winning start at Wembley with a 2-1 win over Euro 2008 co-hosts Switzerland.

Emre started as Turkey were held to a goalles friendly draw with Sweden in Istanbul.

While James Troisi will have to wait for his first senior cap for Australia as he failed to make the final 18 for their 3-0 victory over Qatar in Melbourne.
