SAM Allardyce was delighted to clinch a deal for David Rozehnal after Newcastle United beat off the challenge from top European clubs to capture the Czech star.
The centre-back has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at St. James' Park after arriving from Paris St Germain.
German giants Borussia Dortmund and Spanish aristocrats Sevilla - back-to-back UEFA Cup winners - had both shown an interest in Rozehnal, but the Magpies have got their man as Big Sam takes his summer signings to three after the earlier arrivals of Mark Viduka and Joey Barton.
The gaffer told nufc.co.uk: "I'm delighted that we have been able to secure the signing of David and been able to beat the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla to get him.
"He's a high class player with many years of experience both at club level and international level.
"He'll bring some height and stature to the defence. He'll help strengthen us in that area and he's also very good technically.

"We've worked hard to get this deal done and our persistance has paid off.
"He will need to make some adjustment to get used to playing in the Premier League but we will help him do that, and at 26 he is still a good age to learn.
"David already speaks very good English and is a very good character. I am sure he is looking forward to playing for Newcastle United and he is a very good addition."
